The A1 Racing Club off road track is situated north of Grantham on arable farming land.
The track was designed and built in April 2007 by a very dedicated team in about six weeks!
After two years of use the clay track became extremely worn and was completely unusable if it rained, especially over the winter season. The British weather had beaten us and I was time to say farewell to the old track.
The decision was taken to invest in the facility and start again, creating an all weather Astroturf track. The bulldozer arrived at the end of March 2009 along with over one thousand tonnes of muck. The track area was raised over two feet in some areas, graded and rolled to give a flat surface to lay the Astroturf on.
The track was built with BRCA regulations in mind being 4 metres wide virtually all the way round and having a lap length of 300m. It is designed to be challenging and rewarding for the driver, and also give maximum enjoyment to spectators.
The track is a mix of fast sweeping bends, tight technical sections and has a multitude of jumps and yumps, including banked corners and table top jumps.
There is a wide raised pit lane that comfortably accommodates truggies and a fixed safety fence between the track and the main pitting area. The rostrum safely accommodates 15 drivers and gives a spectacular view of the track.
With the rise in popularity of 1:10 scale buggies and short course trucks, work again started on the track and in 2011 we modified the existing 1:8th track to include a purpose built 1:10 scale track. This is much more suited to the smaller cars and has a created a track that is easy to drive for beginners but difficult to master for the more experienced drivers. The 1:10th track features include many jumps and bumps, a triple section and also a step down section.
Recently we have separated the 1:10th and 1:8th tracks allowing people racing either scale to practice at the same time without interfering with each other. It also means that the 1:8thscale cars have a easier job of getting round the track without having to struggle around the tighter and thinner 1:10th layout.
We operate AMBrc3 timing equipment with twenty hand-out transponders, and BBK lap counting software. We also have a fixed PA system in place.
Toilets are available on site as is a hot food van at our club events and larger meetings.
